Karin grew up in Germany loving to draw and paint on any surface available. This love continued through her years at school while attending college in London, she started taking art classes. Her professor encouraged her interests in art and her love of art became a passion. Returning home, she worked for the German Government. After a few years Karin was posted to the German Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. There she became interested in Oriental Brush Painting. For about four years Karin enjoyed living and working in Bangkok, traveling throughout Asia and neither last nor least meeting her future husband James while he was an American advisor to the Thai Government. Karin and Jim married in Germany ending the hotline connection between Washington and Bangkok.

Karin left the German Foreign Service and moved to Alexandria, Virginia.

She became a student at the Corcoran Art School in Washington for two years. Then Jim’s new assignment took them to Seoul, Korea. This afforded Karin the opportunity to continue her studies of Oriental Art under the tutelage of several Oriental Masters of Art in Chinese Brush Painting and Calligraphy.

The Sebolka’s came back to the Washington area and settled at Lake Barcroft where they still reside after 25 years. During that time, she began a five year period of studies under the Watercolorist, Carolyn Grosse Gawarecki. This was followed by an intensive one year apprenticeship under the American Expressionist William Arthur Herring from Texas. Karin continues to refresh and further her artistic insights and techniques in Watercolors, Pastels and Oils by taking workshops with national and internationally well known artists.

She has won numerous awards at art exhibits, including “Best of Show”. Karin is a juried-in member of the: Potomac Valley Watercolorist, the Washington Water Color Association, and as an Associate of the Lorton Arts Foundation in Fairfax County. She is also an associate member of the American Watercolor Society. Karin has served the Vienna Arts Society for many years as an active member - chaired their annual Treasury of Art Show and recently served for two years as the Society’s Co-President. She is a Charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Karin is represented by the Loft Gallery in Occoquan which exhibits a monthly changing of her latest paintings. She began working at her studio at the Loft Art Center on the 1st of August 2007. Her work can also be seen at the Workhouse Associate Show at the Lorton Art Foundation. Karin’s work has proved to be very popular with lovers of nature’s beauty. Her florals, landscapes, figures, and still life paintings reflect strength of composition and design. Contrast and bold colors play an important role in her work.
