Laura Barringer is an artist currently working and living in Arlington, Virginia. Proficient in a broad range of media, she specializes in oil and watercolor painting as well as printmaking. Her subject matter is diverse, ranging from landscapes, to still-life, and portraiture.

Interested in art from a young age, Laura’s formal artistic training began at the age of 10 with local Virginia artist John Bryans. In 2000 she enrolled at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, and in 2004 she graduated with a joint degree in Art History and Fine Arts. In addition to her studies in Massachusetts, Laura lived for 3 months in Sienna, Italy where she studied art and art history with the Study in Siena program.  She has also studied at the Corcoran in Washington, DC, and at Sothebeys in London, England.

Laura’s artistic influences are varied. Her artwork displays an awareness of many art traditions including French Impressionism, 17th century Italian and Dutch portraiture, and Japanese printmaking. Without citing a favorite artist, her technique is similarly informed by art history.   In her own words, "I wouldn't say I have a favorite artist- there are just too many!- I am in awe of the brushwork of Sargent and think Degas is a genius in compositional study.  I love the stillness of Vermeer but also draw inspiration from the simple complexity of Georgia O'Keefe."

Laura has had her work shown in at Mount Holyoke in South Hadley, Massachusetts, and more locally in Millwood, Virginia at the “Art at the Mill” show. In addition, she shows regularly with the Vale Arts Group, based out of Oakton, VA, of which she has been a member since the spring of 2006.
