Linda’s interest in art was cultivated at the age of twelve in the studio of professional artist, Louise Jamison. During that time, she learned how to paint outdoors and painted scenes of historic sites and landscapes in Delaware. She pursued her study of art through college and has continued to study painting at the Alexandria Art League and other workshops, including some abroad.
With a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Chemistry and Design and an MBA she has accomplished a career as a Materials Engineer for over thirty years. However, her desire to paint still beckons to her and she spends her free time painting on her own or with artist friends. She paints landscapes, still lifes, interior scenes, figures and seascapes. She still considers herself an outdoor painter, influenced by her earlier training. She likes to paint on location to capture that fleeting moment of light. Linda feels that her paintings are more spontaneous and fresh when painted en plein air. She admires the Impressionists and her painting style has been influenced by studying the paintings of master painters Camille Pisarro, Claude Monet, Gari Melchers and Childe Hassam. Recent efforts have been inspired by the realism of Edward Hopper and Joseph McGurl and the collage ensembles of Robert Rauschenberg. These works include exploring with mixed media, utilizing textured and print substrates and incorporating found personal objects into collage assemblages.
Linda’s work has been accepted in juried shows sponsored by the Fairfax County Council of the Arts, the Reston Art League, the Vienna Arts Society, and the Burwell-Morgan Mill in Millwod, VA. Gallery shows include the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum and Gallery By The Bay. She donates paintings for fund raisers such as Art With a Heart and has work in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and in Europe. “I like to involve the viewer in my paintings. Whether it be a mere reflection in water or the actual feel of pounding surf. I feel that my painting is finished when I accomplish this.”
